School Inspections

The Licking County Health Department inspects all state accredited schools annually. Inspections focus on facility maintenance, chemical storage, indoor air quality, and playground safety.

School safety and inspection rules (also known as “Jarod’s Law” rules) went into effect Sept. 27, 2007. The law, named for Jarod Bennett, and its associated rules are designed to protect and improve the environmental health and safety of Ohio’s primary and secondary school students and the staff working in school buildings. For more information on the school environmental health and safety law and rules, contact ODH staff at 614-466-1390. You may review the rules here.

Is your school smoke-free?

Smoking on school property is unhealthy and it sends the wrong message to children. You can encourage your schools to adopt and enforce smoke-free policies that prohibit tobacco use on school property by students, teachers, spectators, and visitors. Contact your school board members to express your concern and ask them to take action to protect children from exposure to secondhand smoke and set a healthy example for students to follow.
