Child
and Family Health Services
The Licking County Health Department (LCHD) has received grant funding to improve Child and Maternal Health services to the residents of Licking County. Program goals are to eliminate health disparities, improve birth outcomes, and to improve the health status of women, infants and children in Licking County. This will be addressed by assessing and monitoring maternal and child health status; informing and educating the public and families about maternal and child health issues; providing leadership to assure the health of women, children, youth, and their families; linking women, children, and youth to services, and assuring access to health care; and evaluating the effectiveness, accessibility, and quality of health care services.
Public and private agencies that make up the public health system often operate in isolation, unaware of the programs and resources available within the system. This isolation leads to duplication of programs, lost or misdirected referrals, and a lack of systems thinking including visioning and planning activities. This project will help prioritize public health issues and identify resources for addressing those priorities.
Assessment instruments will include:
The Local Public Health System Assessment (LPHSA) is a comprehensive assessment of all of the organizations and agencies that contribute to the public’s health. This identifies the activities, competencies, and capacities or our local public health system, and how the essential public health services are being provided.
The Community Health Status Assessment identifies priority issues related to the health and quality of life of our residents.
-
Data is collected from existing sources, and an assessment is conducted in the community using standardized questionnaires.
-
Phone surveys will be conducted by a contractor at 400 random households.
-
WIC clients will also be surveyed to determine the perceived needs of this target population.
