September is National Preparedness Month

August 30, 2011

LICKING COUNTY, OHIO – September has been designated National Preparedness Month.  This is a great time for residents to take the necessary precautions to be prepared in case of an emergency situation.

“As we saw earlier this month with the earthquake, events causing unforeseen problems can occur at any time.”  said Joe Ebel, Licking County Health Commissioner.  “We should all take the time to make sure we have emergency supplies like working flashlights, non-perishable food items, and bottled water in our homes in case of an emergency.  Having the necessary supplies on hand is the best way to prepare for these situations.”

In addition to gathering necessary supplies, the Licking County Health Department would like to invite all county residents over the age of 18 to join the Licking County Medical Reserve Corps.  The Medical Reserve Corps is a group of volunteers that provides assistance during a natural disaster or public health emergency.

For additional information regarding the supplies you should have on hand during an emergency and to find out how to join the Medical Reserve Corps please visit www.lickingcohealth.org.
