Newark Trails

The main trail segments in Newark are part of the T. J. Evans Recreational Trail. Part of the route passing through downtown utilizes public roadways, some with bike lanes, and others with "sharrows" - road markings used to indicate a shared lane environment for bicycles and automobiles.

  • Beginning on the west side of Newark, with parking areas on Cherry Valley Rd., the trail follows the Raccoon Creek east to the Licking County Family YMCA on West Church St. The trail passes the J. Gilbert Reese Bridge, which allows the trail to split to the north, crossing SR16.
  • If you elect to take the trail across the bridge, it will lead to the OSU-N/COTC campus. North of the campus is the Rotary Playground, a handicapped accessible playground with restrooms available. Continuing north, the trail passes the Lou and Gib Reese Ice Arena and ends at Goosepond Rd.
  • From the YMCA, the trail shares the roads through downtown Newark, passing the Canal Market District and The Works: Ohio Center for History, Art & Technology, before connecting to the Panhandle Trail on the east side of Newark.

Parking is available at the Cherry Valley Rd., YMCA, OSU-N, Rotary Playground, and downtown Newark lots.
